Ex-CDC Chief Redfield Demands Immediate Pull of mRNA COVID Vaccines

Former CDC Director Dr. Robert Redfield, who led the agency from 2018 to 2021, has recently stated in an interview with EpochTV’s “American Thought Leaders” that he believes mRNA COVID-19 vaccines from Pfizer and Moderna should be eliminated from the market. He expressed a desire to see their use curtailed or personally eliminated due to “too many unknowns,” citing concerns over the spike protein produced by these vaccines, which he described as immunotoxic. Redfield noted that the mRNA technology turns the body into a factory for producing this protein, with uncertainties about the amount and duration of production, and mentioned his direct experience treating patients with alleged vaccine injuries as influencing his shifted recommendation against them.

From the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, potential risks associated with the rapid development and rollout of mRNA vaccines—including rare but serious side effects like myocarditis—were documented in clinical trials and early reporting systems such as VAERS. However, public health officials, politicians, and media often emphasized benefits while downplaying or contextualizing these risks amid widespread fear, urgent calls for vaccination to achieve herd immunity, and efforts to resume normal activities. This framing was part of a broader strategy to encourage uptake during a time of heightened psychological strain from lockdowns and uncertainty.

With the pandemic’s acute phase largely behind us and societal norms restored, many individuals and experts are reassessing the long-term implications of those emergency measures. Redfield’s call adds to ongoing debates about vaccine safety and policy, reflecting a growing acknowledgment among some former officials that alternatives like protein-based vaccines may warrant preference in non-emergency contexts. As public confidence evolves, such statements highlight the importance of transparent, evidence-based discussions moving forward.
