Congress Spends More Of Your Money
The continuing resolution (CR) passed by Congress last night is set to fund the government for three months, through March 14, 2025. While exact figures for the total CR weren't explicitly stated, there's mention of an increase in spending, with $0.65 in new spending for every discretionary dollar between the current date and March.
The CR faced significant opposition due to its perceived high spending, with critics like Elon Musk and others calling it an "outrageous spending bill." The rejection of the CR by some Republicans was partly due to the inclusion of what was seen as unnecessary spending or policy riders not aligned with conservative goals.
The new CR was $100 billion for 2.5 months, including specific allocations like $100 million for migrant farmers, $15 million for recycling, $60 million for Ukraine, and $3 million for molasses inspectors, alongside giving Congress a raise and allowing them to opt out of Obamacare.
