Crenshaw Tells Americans Stop Whining Eat Ramen Amid Wealth Gain

Representative Dan Crenshaw, having spent seven years in the House, now advises Americans pinched by relentless price increases to cease their complaints, secure employment, and sustain themselves on Ramen noodles as he claims to have done in leaner college days. The counsel arrives with the easy authority of one whose own net worth has risen an estimated sixty-five percent over that same period, settling near one million three hundred forty thousand dollars. Such growth is not, of course, unique among the political class; it simply renders the lecture less persuasive to those whose paychecks have failed to keep pace with the cost of ordinary life.

The deeper difficulty is not the particular congressman’s personal fortune but the broader assumption that market signals must be accepted without question even when those signals have been distorted by years of monetary expansion, regulatory thickets, and fiscal incontinence. Crenshaw’s invocation of college Ramen and four roommates treats present hardship as a failure of individual character rather than the predictable consequence of policies that have inflated asset prices while eroding real wages. One need not be a communist to notice that the same system which rewards certain officeholders handsomely has left many ordinary households measuring success by the ability to absorb a twenty-dollar burrito without complaint.

There is a certain bleak humor in the observation that merely striking a single trailing zero from current price tags would, in the popular mind, dissolve most of the affordability crisis at a stroke. The twenty-dollar burrito becomes two dollars, the forty-thousand-dollar automobile four thousand, the million-dollar house a hundred thousand. Happiness would return overnight, or so the fantasy runs. The joke lands because it exposes how thoroughly the unit of account itself has been stretched. Until the underlying monetary and fiscal habits are corrected, lectures about personal resilience will continue to sound less like hard-earned wisdom and more like the self-satisfied counsel of those already insulated from the consequences.
