Virginia’s Governor Abigail Spanberger, a former CIA operations officer, is not content merely to occupy the executive mansion. She is actively working to place a longtime lieutenant of George Soros into the House of Representatives. Spanberger has endorsed and campaigned for Tom Perriello in the Fifth District, a seat he briefly held more than a decade ago before losing it. From late 2018 until mid-2023, Perriello served as executive director of the U.S. programs of the Open Society Foundations, the principal vehicle through which Soros has financed progressive causes, Democratic infrastructure, and institutional capture across the country.

The connection runs deeper than a résumé line. While directing Open Society’s American spending, Perriello sat on the national board of Indivisible, the professional protest organization whose co-founder, Leah Greenberg, once worked on his staff. Open Society directed millions to Indivisible under his tenure. This is not ordinary constituent service or ideological affinity. It is the installation of a node of an unelected funding-and-mobilization network—one that has openly discussed “crises of legitimacy,” street pressure, and coordinated responses to federal authority—into a congressional seat.

A governor whose professional formation was in intelligence work is therefore not simply supporting a fellow Democrat. She is advancing a candidate who spent years steering major left-wing philanthropic resources, including substantial commitments to racial-justice and open-borders causes, into a position where he can help shape the House majority. If successful, the arrangement would place another instrument of that network inside the institution meant to represent the people of the Fifth District. Voters in that district are entitled to weigh whether they wish their representation to remain independent of such machinery.
