Legacy Media Ignores Massive Minnesota Somali Fraud Scandal

America, it’s time to wake up: the legacy mainstream media has long proven itself to be more interested in protecting narratives than informing the public, often acting as an enemy of the people by selectively ignoring stories that challenge their preferred worldview. The ongoing massive fraud scandals in Minnesota—centered on the Feeding Our Future COVID-era child nutrition program, exploding autism therapy claims, and housing stabilization services—represent billions in taxpayer dollars allegedly stolen, with most defendants from the Somali community and schemes involving fake meal sites, phony diagnoses, and kickbacks. Yet, while conservative outlets and independent investigators like those at City Journal have dug deep to expose the depth of this crisis, major legacy networks and papers have been remarkably silent or minimal in their coverage until political pressure forced their hand.

Take the lack of aggressive, on-the-ground journalism as a prime example. No major legacy outlet—AP, PBS, NPR, CNN, Washington Post, Reuters, or MSNBC—sent undercover journalists to Minnesota to infiltrate and expose the Somali-linked fraud rings, despite the staggering scale: over $250 million from Feeding Our Future alone, hundreds of millions more in autism and housing programs, and federal estimates suggesting total losses could exceed $1 billion or more. Instead, it took conservative reporters like Christopher Rufo and Ryan Thorpe to go undercover, document fake offices and shell companies, and highlight how funds were allegedly laundered overseas. FOX and WSJ have covered aspects aggressively, but the broader legacy media’s reluctance speaks volumes about their priorities—downplaying stories that might fuel criticism of immigration policies or welfare oversight under Democratic administrations.

This selective blindness erodes trust and shields corruption, leaving Americans in the dark about how their hard-earned taxes are being squandered on an industrial scale. When the media chooses silence over scrutiny, it betrays the public it claims to serve, allowing scandals to fester until they become national crises. We deserve better—journalists who pursue truth relentlessly, not gatekeepers who bury inconvenient realities.
