Among these, the DOGE team uncovered that the National Institutes of Health had allocated funds for research on what was described as "transgender monkeys," an expenditure that raised eyebrows for its alignment with scientific priorities and public interest. Another significant instance involved the U.S. government spending $1.7 million on holograms of deceased comedians, which was seen as an extravagant and arguably unnecessary use of taxpayer money. Additionally, there were revelations about millions of dollars being spent on studies like the effects of alcohol on fish aggression or quail behavior under the influence of cocaine, highlighting a pattern of questionable fiscal responsibility.
 

Further scrutiny from the DOGE team revealed that the Treasury Department had payment approval officers who were instructed to approve all payments without denial, leading to billions in potential waste, including payments to known fraudulent or terrorist groups. This came alongside the discovery of $100 billion wasted in Medicare and Medicaid through inefficiencies in payment and contracting systems. Such findings underscore a systemic issue in federal spending oversight, where checks and balances seem to have been significantly relaxed or overlooked.
 

In light of these revelations, there's growing speculation that Ron Paul, known for his criticism of federal policies including the Federal Reserve, might soon be enlisted to conduct an audit of this central banking institution. Paul's history as a vocal advocate for government transparency and his skepticism towards the Federal Reserve's operations align perfectly with the objectives of the DOGE initiative. His involvement could lead to a comprehensive review of the Federal Reserve's monetary policies, spending, and perhaps even its very structure, aiming to curb inefficiencies or excesses.
