The Board of Peace has secured what President Trump rightly terms a historic agreement: Hamas and the other armed factions in Gaza have committed to complete disarmament. This is no vague aspiration or staged photo opportunity. It is the second phase of the American-brokered framework, under which weapons are to be relinquished in sequenced stages, an International Stabilization Force is to assume interim security duties alongside a new Palestinian police apparatus, and a technocratic Palestinian administration is to take civil responsibility for the territory. Mediators in Cairo, Doha, and Ankara facilitated the arrangement; the Board itself, chaired by the American president, now turns to verification and enforcement.

Trump has stated the governing sequence with characteristic clarity. Israeli forces will withdraw only as disarmament is completed. The logic is straightforward and overdue. Gaza cannot be reconstructed, nor can its people be governed in any durable sense, while arsenals remain in the hands of those who have repeatedly chosen war over welfare. The alternative—perpetual Israeli presence or another round of managed chaos—has been tried and found wanting. What is now on the table is the first serious attempt in a generation to end the monopoly of violence held by rejectionist factions and to replace it with institutions oriented toward the actual interests of Gazans rather than the regional ambitions of their former patrons.

If the agreement holds and is verified, the case for the Nobel Peace Prize becomes difficult to dismiss on any grounds other than institutional prejudice. Ending a multi-year war, removing the principal source of its recurrence, and creating conditions for reconstruction is the substance of peacemaking, not the performance of it. The prize has been awarded for far less. Whether the Norwegian committee can recognize an American achievement achieved against the grain of progressive orthodoxy is another question; the achievement itself is already visible.
