Regime Change Alone Ends Iran's Nuclear Ambition and Hormuz Threat

The President’s formulation remains exact and unyielding: Iran cannot possess a nuclear weapon in any way, shape, or form. That has been the American position since long before the JCPOA, and it is the only stance compatible with the security of the United States, Israel, and the free passage of energy through the Strait of Hormuz. As the sixty-day window attached to the June memorandum now closes, the record confirms what any serious observer already understood—Tehran treats temporary restraints as mere breathing space, never as binding limits on its ambitions.

The 2015 agreement did not restrain those ambitions; it legitimized them. By granting Iran a pathway to industrial-scale enrichment under the polite fiction of “peaceful” nuclear work, the JCPOA converted a strategic threat into a scheduled inevitability. The regime’s subsequent conduct—stockpiling highly enriched uranium, obstructing inspectors, and accelerating its ballistic programs—proved that the deal was never a barrier but a timetable. When a government’s founding ideology and daily practice both demand the destruction of its principal adversaries, verbal renunciations of nuclear weapons are theater, not policy.

Regime change is therefore not a slogan but the logical terminus of a conflict the present Iranian government cannot end without abandoning its own identity. Temporary pauses, sanctions relief, and reconstruction packages merely finance the next round of confrontation. The alternative is perpetual crisis management: endless negotiations, intermittent military action, and the constant risk that one miscalculation leaves a nuclear-armed theocracy astride the world’s most critical energy chokepoint. That is not peace. It is managed decline. The President’s red line forces the choice into the open—either the regime abandons the ambition that defines it, or the ambition ends with the regime.
