Tillis’ 2026 Retirement Unmasks GOP Senators Hating Trump and Voters

Once Thom Tillis decided not to seek reelection in 2026, the mask came off, revealing his true colors as a Republican who has often clashed with the party’s base and President Trump. Following his vote against Trump’s sweeping “big, beautiful bill” in June 2025, which aimed at major tax and spending reforms, Tillis announced his retirement amid backlash from Trump himself. This move exposed a broader issue in Congress: dozens of so-called Republicans in the Senate who appear to despise their voters, resent the President, and prioritize personal enrichment over conservative principles. These senators, often labeled as RINOs, have undermined key initiatives while maintaining a facade of loyalty to secure their positions.

Their modus operandi since 2016 has been to deceive voters with promises during campaigns, only to obstruct legislation in ways that allow plausible deniability. By voting against procedural motions or diluting bills through amendments, they block progress without fully owning the fallout. This pattern persists until constituents catch on, forcing retirements or defeats. In essence, these politicians function as Democrats in everything but name, aligning more with establishment bipartisanship than with the America First agenda, as evidenced by Tillis’s repeated emphasis on compromise and independent thinking in his retirement statement.

Tillis is now positioning himself as CNN’s latest Benedict Arnold, appearing on the network to play the role of the “concerned moderate Republican” alarmed by the Trump administration’s actions. In interviews with Jake Tapper and on State of the Union, he’s criticized White House advisors like Stephen Miller and DHS Secretary Kristi Noem, questioning policies on immigration, the Fed, and even Greenland, while avoiding direct attacks on Trump. These Senate traitors represent the Trump administration’s greatest hurdle, with leadership complicit in the scheme. Senate Majority Leader John Thune, himself a establishment figure, is actively shielding another like John Cornyn by warning that Cornyn’s primary loss to Ken Paxton could flip Texas blue, pouring resources into protecting him despite his history of bucking Trump. Such figures should have been rooted out years ago; now, Americans bear the cost of their self-serving obstruction.
